Professor Mudge teaches Eighteenth-Century British Literature. He is the author of Sara Coleridge (Yale 1989) and The Whore's Story (Oxford 2000) and the editor of British Romantic Novelists (Gale 1992) and When Flesh Becomes Word (Oxford 2004). He is currently at work on a biography of artist Thomas Rowlandson and a study of portraits and money in eighteenth-century England.
