Open and Competitive available Chair position

DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY CHAIR AT THE UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO DENVER:

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Colorado Denver (UCD) is seeking a Department Chair to lead a vibrant, growing department known for excellence in teaching as it expands an outstanding student-centered research program. Candidates are expected to have a strong record of accomplishment in research and a commitment to excellence in teaching that would qualify them for tenure at UCD at the rank of Full Professor. The successful applicant will be expected to maintain a productive, independent research program that complements the activities of other Department faculty, and to teach courses for both undergraduate and M.S. students.

The University of Colorado Denver is composed of two campuses, the Denver Campus and the Anschutz Medical Campus.  The Denver Campus is located adjacent to downtown Denver on the Auraria campus shared with Metropolitan State University of Denver and the Community College of Denver.  The urban setting provides access to a wide array of academic, professional, recreational, and cultural outlets.  This Denver Campus has an enrollment of 15,000 students and a highly diverse student population.  The Denver Campus has 7 schools/colleges offering 34 undergraduate and 58 graduate degree programs. The Anschutz Medical Campus in nearby Aurora features world-class research, educational, and clinical space. That site also hosts the University of Colorado Hospital, The Children’s Hospital, the future Denver Veterans Administration Medical Center, and a bioscience research park. Collaborative research programs with faculty in other UCD departments, on both campuses, are strongly encouraged.

The Chemistry Department is one of 22 programs offering bachelor's degrees in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences on the downtown campus. The department also has a graduate program offering the M.S. degree that has been strengthened by the recent influx of research active faculty. We anticipate expanding graduate degree offerings as our research capabilities grow. The Department of Chemistry is composed of 6 Assistant Professors, 3 Associate Professors, 5 Full Professors, and 4 full-time Instructors. Two senior faculty members have substantial administrative positions outside the department. Research in the department is funded by grants from the Research Corporation, NSF, NIH, and the Petroleum Research Fund. The department occupies a portion of a new Science building with space for both research and teaching and substantial instrumental resources are available for both: http://www.ucdenver.edu/academics/colleges/CLAS/Departments/chemistry/AboutUs/Pages/Major-Equipment-List.aspx

We seek an innovative, resourceful, and dynamic leader to help build and mentor our growing department, to facilitate regional collaborations, to grow sponsored research, and to raise the national and international profile of the department.  Applicants should submit a letter of interest highlighting teaching and administrative experience, a CV, the names of four references, and a brief statement describing current and future research directions to posting number F00042 at http://www.jobsatcu.com/. Applicant review will begin October 20th, 2013, and will continue until the position is filled. The Chemistry Department and UCD are committed to diversity and equality in education and employment. The University of Colorado Denver requires background investigations for employment.
