Dr. Resendiz began his academic career as an undergraduate student at the University of Utah working with Professor Peter J. Stang. While there, he worked on the design and synthesis of supramolecular metallacyclic architectures and studied their properties as sensors and storage devices.  He ultimately received his PhD at the University of California, Los Angeles working under Professor Miguel A. Garcia-Garibay.  Dr. Resendiz developed solvent free (solid-to-solid) reactions useful in the synthesis of complex natural products containing stereogenic quaternary centers as part of his Ph.D research.  Prior to joining UC Denver, Dr. Resendiz completed a Postdoctoral position with Professor Marc M. Greenberg at Johns Hopkins University, where he studied the mechanisms that lead to RNA strand scission upon oxidative damage.

Dr. Resendiz is current involved in research that includes the interface of organic and biological chemistry.  The goals are (1) to use photoactive short RNA libraries in the exploration of RNA-ligand interactions for applications in biosensing technologies i.e., finding good candidates for therapeutic purposes and (2) to explore the potential link between RNA oxidative damage and a variety of neurodegenerative and muscular diseases.
