Hailing from Ft. Collins—the self-proclaimed fashion capitol of Colorado—Aly’s early aspirations centered on launching a Culottes Revolution. With her sewing machine, pinking shears, and fabric swatches clutched awkwardly to her (because those items sure are unwieldy), she made her way to New York, only to have her dreams unraveled under the seam-ripper of the Skort Rebellion. Undaunted, Aly sought salvation in Italy, where an underground Palazzo Pants Movement (PPM), led by the controversial and enigmatic Bernaducci Compositioni, was rumored to be underway. Her past and future became synthesized through his doctrine: “The piecing together of fabrics is a metaphor for the piecing together of ideas. A revolution in pants design does not a life make; a revolution in writing consulting does.” Señor Compositioni’s words, bequeathed to her as she bade him a teary-eyed farewell, haunt her to this day as she recruits a legion of new composition followers.
