Sight reading will be assessed during the audition using two methods:
- Read an example that is about sixteen measures in length. Examples will be extracted from intermediate piano scores.
- Interpret a lead sheet with left-hand chords from the chord symbols and right-hand melody.
3. Scales - prepare the following:
Prepare two octave major scales in all twelve major keys, up to 5 sharps and 5 flats, ascending and descending, with correct fingerings.

There are three audition dates for the Fall 2012 application process:
- Friday, February 10, 2012
- Friday, March 16, 2012
- Friday, April 13, 2012

While students are encouraged to perform "live" auditions, this is not always possible for out-of-state students. Out-of-state students who cannot attend a live audition may submit a recorded audition. Recorded auditions must contain the type of repertoire listed above and may be five to ten minutes in length. Recordings will not be returned.

6. Minors
The MEIS Department no longer accepts General Musicianship minors.
