The College of Architecture and Planning runs extensive study abroad programs, and is exploring partnerships with international universities including Dar Al-Hekma College in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Tongji University in Shanghai, and Southeast University in Nanjing.
Hands-on experience. In Italy. Or China. Immersed in a culture that offers unique locals and customs, while broadening your view of the world, and putting your own hometown into perspective.
Great opportunities like this don’t come around often. If at all. So take advantage of an international experience while you can.
International Partnerships
CAP has a partnership with Dar Al-Hekma College, one of the first private women’s colleges in Saudi Arabia. In 2009-10, we ran a joint design studio project between the two institutions, pairing University of Colorado Denver architecture students with Dar Al-Hekma interior design students to design affordable housing for Jeddah. We have obtained the first gift of an endowment that eventually will fund this collaborative studio in perpetuity. We completed work with DAH on the design of a new curriculum, which they used to seek approval from the Ministry of Education for a new Bachelor of Architecture, beginning in 2012.
We ran our first cohort of students from the Seoul Metropolitan Government through the Master of Urban and Regional Planning, in accordance with a Memorandum of Understanding we signed with them last year.
We have developed, and are now seeking approval for, a dual degree Master of Landscape Architecture with Tongji University in Shanghai.
We have implemented an internship program sponsored by Gensler Associates (one of the world’s largest design firms), to exchange UCD students and Tongji University students who work in the Gensler office in the host country. 2012 will be the second year of the program.
