Our Impact

  • SOPLAY (System for Observing Play and Leisure Activity in Youth) is an observation tool used to measure activity during recess

  • Environmental measures of the schoolyards are taken to determine play area space and equipment
  • Accelerometers or activity monitors measure activity of children outside of school hours
  • Body Mass Index (BMI) testing measures height and wight of children, grades 1, 3 and 5. 
  •  Questionnaires to determine the students' perception of their physical and social environments and behaviors

How We Are Different

The IPLAY study is commited to the values of the Colorado Center for Community Development and focus on Education, Collaboration, Equity and Innovation.

The IPLAY research study uses two types of curriculum implementation, SPARK and Balance First, and five innovative assessment tools to access behavior changes in elementary children.
