Railroad Resources Preservation Plan: Cimarron, Colorado

Christopher Koziol, Fred Rutz, Michael Holleran

One span of a nineteenth century truss bridge of the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad, a locomotive, and seven pieces of rolling stock--all owned by the City of Montrose and the Curecanti National Recreation Area--were badly in need of repair and restoration. As part of a College of Architecture and Planning graduate studio, students evaluated the deteriorating railroad structure and components. Students undertook a condition assessment, developed a restoration and maintenance plan, and prepared a report proposing alternatives for long-term development and interpretation.
