Grounding Environmental Design:

Learning Through a Collaborative Garden

About the Project

The design, development, and maintenance of a campus vegetable garden in collaboration with a local school and other community partners to provide environmental design students with a valuable hands-on learning experience, while helping meet the need for food of local households living in poverty. In progress.

A view of the garden beds just
after planting in early June...

 ...and the same view, seven
 weeks later.
 A glimpse of new transplants
 from the Growing Gardens plants
 sale.

Despite a late start to the season,
the veggies and flowers were
doing well by August.

Our new sign in the foreground,
a bed full of food behind.
A squash tendril hoping to make
 friends with a marigold.

Cabbage, carrots, and beets all
growing together.

 Ornamental flowers help attract
 pollinators and people.
A honey bee doing its thing.

A pollen laden bee hoping
to find more in this squash
blossom.
 A freshly watered eggplant
 emerging amongst bean plants.
