In order to find out which Boulder businesses offer jobs for minors and create a youth-oriented jobs database, we need to:
- Create an initial questionnaire to send to businesses via the Boulder Chamber of Commerce or another key organization
- Analyze the collected data and write overview of what is the job situation looks like
- Find out if youth in Boulder would use a database to search and apply for jobs
- Create an interactive database that businesses can post job openings to and youth can search
- Create a common application that youth can use to apply for jobs listed in the database
- Market the database to businesses and youth
- Manage the database
- Send out reminders and emails about the database
A secondary goal for the Growing Up Boulder Business Action Group is to find out if businesses in Boulder are youth-friendly and have youth-friendly policies. The tasks to do this include:
- Determine criteria for what it means to be a youth-friendly business
- Create an application form that businesses can submit in order to apply for youth-friendly status
- Determine incentives for businesses to apply for youth-friendly status
- Interview/audit businesses that apply
- Create an interview protocol to use during the audit
- Train youth to conduct the interviews
- Look into a Youth “Best of Boulder” competition
- Create an youth-friendly business guidebook in order to help businesses be more youth-friendly
- Meet with business owners and community leaders to discuss issues that come up between businesses and youth
