Westwood Initiatives
Born out of the Learning Landscapes schoolyard redevelopment project in Denver, the Westwood Initiative is a holistic approach towards building community efficacy. While schools are a focal point of communities and a catalyst for change, this project reaches beyond schoolyards to address the societal, built environment, economical, and environmental barriers in order to build sustainable, healthy communities. Technical Assistance Program
Learning Landscapes provides technical assistance to Denver Public Schools, neighborhood associations, community members, and related nonprofit organizations to improve school sites and surrounding neighborhoods, and to address relevant community issues through volunteer participation.

A year-round hands-on, service-learning curriculum at UCD enlists graduate students to develop master plans in the fall and design documents in the spring.
