Overview of the Application Process
When to Submit Your Online Application
Beginning in September you may submit your online application for admission to the Spring, Summer, or Fall term. You will be notified about admission decisions as early as October.
From the time your online application is complete, allow for a minimum of four to six weeks for it to be reviewed. We give full consideration to complete applications (with the application fee and all required credentials) submitted online by the priority dates. After these dates, we will continue to consider applications if space is still available.
Review Process
When we evaluate your application, we will look at the types of courses you have taken, your GPA, the extent to which you have completed our minimum academic preparation standards (MAPS), your SAT or ACT scores.
Considerations
Many factors are considered in evaluating your application for admission. Although your academic performance in high school (GPA and the quality of your course work) is typically viewed as an important indicator of success, we also consider:
- College entrance test scores (either the SAT or ACT)
- The trend in your grades
- The extent to which the MAPS have been met
- And your character, conduct and contribution to the community (essay and letter of recommendation)
Upper Division Admissions
Upon completing the online application and being accepted to the university, you will enter the College of Architecture and Planning as an Environmental Design student and you will be enrolled in the ENVD major, which offers a Bachelor of Environmental Design degree (BEnvd).
Once you have successfully completed your lower division courses and your student performance has been reviewed by faculty, you will then transition into one of the upper-division emphases:
- Architecture
- Architectural Studies
- Design Studies
- Planning
- Sustainable Urbanism
- Urban Design
