Faculty Leading/Taking Students Abroad


The Office of Global Education is responsible for all university-related student international travel. The Office is committed to providing University of Colorado Denver students with appropriate, challenging and safe international learning opportunities.

All university faculty members who will be accompanied by CU Denver students must follow Global Education processes and protocols:

      • Submit Online Course Proposal
        Faculty members proposing to lead a group of students on a study abroad (travel study) program for credit must receive approval through their college or school and Global Education. Please contact the Director of Global Education prior to drafting your proposal for a starting discussion.

        Faculty may submit a Global Study Program Proposal. Make sure that your proposal has the appropriate approvals and is submitted by the designated application deadline.

      • Contact the Office of Global Education
        Faculty members who are taking students on international travel must inform the Office of Global Education

      • Participate in Mandatory Workshops and Training
        Faculty must participate in all mandatory workshops and training conducted by the Office of Global Education prior to leading a group of students abroad. More information is available on the Office for Global Education website.

      • Enforce University Policies for Students Abroad
        Faculty members leading approved university programs for students abroad are required to follow and enforce university procedures and policies related to international programs

      • Appeal of Travel Suspension
        Faculty led travel programs to countries with an official Travel Warning, Travel Health Warning or to one of the Sanctioned Nations are automatically suspended. Faculty directors may appeal the suspension following procedures provided by the Office of Global Education and the International Risk Management Committee.
