Diego Garcia
Director of Global Education

Diego Garcia is the director of the Global Education Office at CU Denver. He holds a B.S degree in Economics from the University of Colorado, Boulder; a M.S. degree in Finance and a M.A degree in Agricultural Economics from Texas A&M University.  He is presently working on a PhD degree in Higher Education Administration from Texas A&M University.  Diego Garcia has over 17 years of international work experience managing and assessing global education programs including study abroad, internships abroad, and experiential learning in higher education institutions.  He has traveled extensively in Europe, Asia, and Latin America developing and overseeing global education programs.   His academic and research interests reside in cross-cultural education, and acculturation dimensions of underrepresented ethnic populations in predominantly Han public research institutions of higher education in China.

Meghan Atherton
Study Abroad Coordinator

Meghan is a Study Abroad Coordinator at CU Denver's Office of Global Education. While earning her degree in International Studies at the University of Colorado Denver, she spent a semester in Florence, Italy. Since her time in Italy, she has also travelled to the Czech Republic, the Dominican Republic, England, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Mexico, Guatemala, and Switzerland. While she loves Europe, her next travel goal is South America!

Jessica ​Tharp
Asia Study Abroad Coordinator

Jessica is the Asia Study Abroad Coordinator at CU Denver’s Office of Global Education. She advises students who are interested in studying abroad in Asia and the Middle East, coordinates CU Denver’s Semester in Beijing Program, and works towards diversifying study abroad at CU Denver. Jessica studied abroad and volunteered for four months in India, taught English for a year in Vietnam, and has travelled to China, Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia, Thailand, Turkey, and Israel. She has Master’s degree in International Education from SIT Graduate Institute in Vermont.


Catherine Bogle

Catherine is a Global Education Associate at CU Denver’s Office of Global Education. She coordinates with faculty, students, and residents at Anschutz Medical Campus who are pursuing international opportunities as part of their educational experience at CU. She also advises CU Denver students who are interested in studying abroad. While a student at CU Boulder, Catherine spent a semester abroad in Tanzania. She has also traveled throughout Western and Central Europe, Latin America, and Australia. Most recently she embarked on a six-week journey via the Trans-Siberian Railway where she fell in love with Mongolia. Catherine holds a Master’s degree in International Education from SIT Graduate Institute.

Patrick is our China Operations Coordinator on the ground in Beijing. He oversees the daily operations of our Semester in Beijing program and has been with the program since 2007.  
Patrick also teaches Communication courses at ICB.
    An Intercultural Communication major at San Jose State University, Patrick later earned an M.A. and Ph.D. in Culture and Communication with a minor in International Studies from the University of Denver. Patrick’s mixed ethnic background (Chinese/Taiwanese-American and European-American) has fueled his passion to learn more about China and Chinese culture and communication. In 2013 he won the coveted “ICB Teaching Excellence” award.


Alison Pegler

Alison is majoring in Spanish and is also minoring in German and Biology. She studied abroad in southern Spain during Fall 2012, and then in northern Germany during Spring 2013. She was bit by the travel bug while in Europe, and got to see many unique places, such as Iceland, Portugal, Denmark, and Hungary. Alison plans on living a life full of international adventures, and is hoping to next visit South America and China.​

Sean Ralph

Sean is a Management major at CU Denver Business School. He studied Global Sports and Entertainment Management with the London Calling Study Abroad program during Maymester of 2013. While abroad he visited England, France, Iceland and Ireland. His future travel plans include South America and Southeast Asia.

Emma Sletteland

Emma Sletteland is pursuing a degree in International Studies and a minor in French at CU Denver. She is a member of the University Honors and Leadership program. During the fall 2013 semester, she studied abroad in Aix en Provence, France. She has traveled to Europe multiple times and has visited Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Switzerland, Holland, Sweden, and Denmark. Next on her list is New Zealand.
