2nd-year Medical Spanish in Guatemala

During the month of June, 2nd-year CHA/PA students may study medical Spanish in a classroom and clinical environment in Quetzaltenango, commonly known as Xela (SHAY-la). CU Denver works closely with the Celas Maya Language School where students have one-on-one instruction and the "language laboratory" consists of shadowing medical practioners in local clinics and hospitals. 

2 credits. Additional study abroad charge applies, covering language instruction, accomodation with Guatemala family, three meals daily, international health insurance. 

3rd-year Clinical Rotation in Guatemala

During their 3rd-year, CHA/PA students may complete their "community clinic" rotation in one of two locations in Guatemala. Students are expected to have intermediate-level Spanish or better. 

UNOP, la Unidad Nacional de Oncología Pediatríca (National Pediatric Oncology Hospital in English), a state-of-the-art Pediatric Oncology hospital is located in Guatemala City.

Centro de Salud Bárbara is a rural clinic located outside of Antigua, Guatemala and run by the medical school of the University Fransisco Marroquín.

3 credits. Additional study abroad charge applies, covering on-site accomodations and international health insurance. No language instruction included.
