Yanting (Sarah) Shao is a senior student studying Communication in the Beijing ICB program. As an experienced student journalist, Shao has reported on a variety of ICB activities, and has interviewed many ICB students and professors.
Talking about the last four years of study at ICB in Beijing, Shao believes that both the most challenging and the most rewarding experience has been taking the communications course called “Principle of Public Relations.” Shao not only acquired some professional skills, but she also successfully obtained an internship in a large PR company through this course. During the last fall semester, Guest Professor Hamilton Bean taught. He invited Mr. Jim James, the director of EASTWEST PR, to give a special lecture while offering an internship opportunity for students. To get this valuable internship, Shao made a digital brand promotion plan by herself for the company’s new customer Mr. Morgan Cars. It was the first time that Shao put the classroom knowledge into practice; she presented directly to the company supervisors. Through persistence, she finally got the practical opportunity in the desired company. Shao is very grateful to Professor Bean and ICB for providing these precious learning experiences.
Not only does Shao have good academic achievements, but she also participates in many student activities, such as the ICB Christmas party and the college basketball game. As a significant member of the ICB press corps, Shao reported on ICB events and interviewed outstanding ICB students who won scholarships. According to Shao, being sufficiently prepared before an interview is most essential for a journalist to complete a successful report, A good journalist has to be able to control the whole situation during the talk, while providing a comfortable and natural talking atmosphere. Shao always made a detailed outline prior to English interviews.
As a personal interest, Shao does photography. Here is one of her favorite recent works. In the picture, we see greenery on CAU campus, and share the vitality of the coming spring in Beijing. Outside the classroom, Shao likes watching movies and singing songs with her friends.
Shao is now applying to study media management in the Hong Kong Baptist University. Similar to her internship experience, she hopes to work in a PR department in the future, with a focus on maintaining the company’s brand in the public. We look forward to hearing about Shao’s future achievements!
