Prospective Students

How to Apply


Undergraduate

International Admissions wants to make your first step towards pursuing a Bachelor’s degree at UC Denver as quick and easy as possible. Submission of a complete application packet will help us in this process. A complete application packet will include:

  • International Student Application Form
  • $75 Application Fee - Acceptable methods of payment for the $75 Application Fee are:
    • Personal check
    • Money order
    • Credit card - Payments can ONLY be processed over the phone by calling the Bursar’s Office (303 556 2710)
    • DO NOT SEND CASH OR PERSONAL CREDIT CARD INFORMATION
  • Official High School Transcripts
  • Official Transcripts from all Colleges/Universities attended (if any)
  • Minimum TOEFL (71 IBT / 525 PBT) or IELTS (6.0) Score
  • Original Financial and Bank Statements
  • ACT/SAT Scores (for freshman Engineering applicants only)

Official transcripts are those that arrive at our office in an envelope sealed by the institution or local ministry of education. All documents must be accompanied by a certified English translation

Official high school transcripts are not required for transfer applicants who have completed more than 30 semester hours of college/university coursework

The UC Denver institutional code for TOEFL is 4875. The TOEFL/IELTS requirement can be waived if an applicant has completed 6 semester hours of college-level English composition with a "B" average at a United States institution. Applicants who successfully graduate from Level 6 studies at Spring International Language Center may also be eligible to have TOEFL/IELTS waived

Original financial and bank statements are required from each financial sponsor. Financial documents cannot be more than 6 months old. Scholarship award letters from private sponsors or government agencies are also acceptable. The effective date on award letters must correspond with the initial semester of study and must be valid for at least one year

ACT/SAT scores are only required for direct admission to the College of Engineering and Applied Science’s programs. Admission to UC Denver is still possible without these scores by way of the Pre-Engineering program in the College of Liberal Arts and Science

Graduate

As application deadlines and requirements vary by graduate department, it’s absolutely necessary to visit the website of the Graduate Program that you are interested in.  In addition to their specific departmental requirements, complete graduate application packets will include:

  • International Student Application Form
  • $75 Application Fee
  • Official Transcripts from all Colleges/Universities attended
  • Minimum TOEFL or IELTS Score
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • (only two are required for Business programs)
  • GMAT/GRE Scores
  • Original Financial and Bank Statements
  • Any additional departmental requirements

Regarding the requirements above, it is important to note:

The UC Denver institutional code for TOEFL is 4875.  The TOEFL/IELTS requirement can be waived for applicants who have completed a Baccalaureate or graduate-level degree program at an English-speaking college or university or have completed at least two semesters at college or university in the U.S.A. as a full time student and obtained a “B” average or higher.  Applicants who successfully graduate from Level 6 studies at Spring International Language Center may also be eligible to have TOEFL/IELTS waived

Letters of recommendation that are academic in nature are preferred by admissions committees, but if it has been several years since you attended a college/university professional references will also be accepted

GMAT scores are required for all graduate Business programs.  GRE scores are required for some programs, please check your department’s website.  View the GMAT and GRE institutional codes for reporting scores to UC Denver.

Non-Degree

If you are interested in taking classes without seeking formal admission to a degree seeking program, non-degree studies are your best option. 
International non-degree applicants must already be in the United States on a visa that permits part-time study, as UC Denver cannot issue immigration documents (I-20) for non-degree studies.

  • A complete non-degree application will include:
  • Non-degree Application Form
  • $25 application fee
  • Photocopy of U.S. visa page in passport
  • Approval letter from International Student Advisor at current institution
    (this only applies to applicants currently studying in the U.S. on an F-1 student visa)
  • Applicants who wish to take graduate Business non-degree courses must also submit:
    Official Transcripts from all Colleges/Universities attended

Deadlines

It is highly advisable to submit all application materials by the preferred deadline so as to allow enough time to process the application and issue an immigration document (I-20).
