Health Insurance

The University of Colorado Denver, Downtown Campus has a mandatory health insurance plan for all international students in the non-immigrant visa categories of F-1 and J-1. The premium for coverage will be automatically added to the student's account each semester. All dependents have the option of choosing the plan offered through the University of Colorado Denver, but MUST BE ENROLLED WITHIN 30 DAYS OF ARRIVAL IN THE UNITED STATES.

All other international students with the immigration status of H-1,H-4, TN, R2, and J-2 scholars may voluntarily enroll in the plan. Please contact the Health Insurance Office at 303-556-3399 for information.

The University has implemented a new insurance waiver policy for all F-1/J-1 student visa holders. If you are covered under comparable coverage, you may qualify to waive out of the University issued student health insurance plan. Every student wishing to be waived from the University sponsored plan must fill out and submit the waiver form each semester that s/he is enrolled for courses at UC Denver.

The online enrollment site will open for fall 2010 waivers on June 1, 2010 and spring/summer 2011 waivers on November 1, 2010. The deadline dates for submittal are:

  • September 8, 2010 by 5:00 pm for Fall 2010 and;
  • February 2, 2011 by 5:00 pm for Spring/Summer 2011

No waivers/refunds will be processed after the aforementioned dates. The school health insurance premium will automatically be added to your student account if the waiver fails to meet the University health insurance comparable requirements or if you fail to submit the documentation by the required deadline.
