For licensed nurses, there's a crossroads that often presents itself, whether it's job change and/or advancement or a desire to conduct research and/or teach.

This PhD program from the University of Colorado Denver is designed to prepare you to advance the art, science, and practice of the discipline. PhD preparation in nursing promotes knowledge development for reflective, theory-based, and research-guided nursing practice.

This PhD program equips nurses to conduct knowledge development and scholarly inquiry and to be actively engaged in many roles including, but not limited to:

Program Requirements

The Post-Masters PhD track consists of 72 semester credits and can be completed in three to five full time academic years. There are two focal areas: Biobehavioral Science and Health Care Systems.

  • Dissertation: 30 credits
  • Required Core: 17 credits
  • Focal Core: 19 credits
  • Elective: 6 credits

The MS-PhD track consists of 102 semester credits, 30 of which complete the MS degree and the remaining 72 PhD credits are listed above.
