Colorado Rocks 2014

You voted: Top 10 things to do before you graduate!

Whether you're studying at the Anschutz Medical Campus or the Denver Campus, we all have one thing in common—Colorado is our backyard and playground.  So we asked you to let us know what experiences students at CU Denver | Anschutz should not miss before they graduate.  You voted for your favorites on Facebook.

Ranked between sixth and 10th place were 1Up Arcade Bar, Elitch Gardens, Denver Botanic Gardens, any hot springs in Colorado, and Denver's 16th Street Mall.

And here are the top five must-do experiences!

Drum roll, please ...

#5 Watch your favorite professional team

Denver has a major league sports team in all of the main sports—baseball, football, basketball, hockey and soccer. Go Rockies, Broncos, Nuggets, Avalanche and Rapids!

"Going to a Denver Broncos game has to be on the top of everyone's list when living in Colorado!" — Aaron Freyta

"The energy and enthusiasm is amazing as complete strangers come together to cheer on their beloved orange and blue!" — Christopher Dirgo

"I love going to Rockies games! (They have great corn dogs too!)" — Dana Underwood

#4 Experience whitewater rafting

With rapids rated Class I (like your bathtub) to Class VI (extreme and potentially dangerous), Colorado's rivers offer unforgettable whitewater rafting trips.

"The water can be unpredictable and challenging which keeps you on your toes the whole time.  It's also a great way to get an upper body workout without even knowing it." — Mary Kihorany

"If you are not outdoors enjoying the biggest backyard Colorado has to offer, you aren't doing it right."  — Stephanie Wong

#3 Try skiing or boarding

Colorado offers world-class skiing and boarding at legendary resorts like Vail and Aspen, but CU Denver | Anschutz students named Breckenridge as their favorite in Slope Battle 2013.

"There's nothing better than a Colorado powder day.  The feeling of floating on a sea of fluff is  absolutely magical. — Juliana Valera

"There is no better way to enjoy the mountains than skiing or snowboarding." — Richard Heinz

"Colorado is the ski capital of the world for a reason." — Pratibha Anand

#2 Go to a concert at Red Rocks

Red Rocks 1 Red Rocks 2

Red Rocks, the only naturally-occurring, acoustically perfect amphitheater in the world, has hosted concerts by the greatest bands of all time. In 2013, concert-goers enjoyed more than 90 events including FUN, The Lumineers, Keith Urban, Bruno Mars, Barenaked Ladies, and the Zac Brown Band.

"Red Rocks will take your breath away." — Ana Gonzalez

"Great views,  great acoustics, and great music!" — Sarah Korus

"Red Rocks is the 8th wonder of the world." — Lindsey Ames

… and the number one experience all students should have before they graduate …

#1 Climb a fourteener

Colorado boasts 54 peaks that exceed 14,000 feet in elevation.

"You can't beat the view from 14,000 feet!" — Sarah Brewer

"You are above the tree line, above the hustle and bustle of the city and above being scared and nervous.  You have made it." — Emmaleigh Darnell

"Climb a Colorado 14er on a first date and you might just end up getting married to each other!" — Jeff Redmond

"It would be a crime not to experience this before you leave." — Anthony Blevins

Hiker in Colorado

Even though the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve didn't make our Top Ten list, we loved this student photo and wanted to share it. Thanks to everyone for your great photos and for voting!
