Troy presents ecological research for Baltimore Ecosystem Study

Austin Troy, associate professor of Planning, gave two invited presentations related to the research for his book, The Very Hungry City.

“The Very Hungry City: What urban energy metabolism means for sustainability and competitiveness” was the keynote address for the Baltimore Ecosystem Study’s (BES) annual meeting on Oct. 22. BES is one of two urban long-term ecological research projects from the National Science Foundation.

At the meeting, Austin’s book was tagged “BES Book of the Year.”

His other presentation was “Urban Energy Metabolism, Sustainable Communities, and Economic Competitiveness,” presented for TEDx MidAtlantic in Washington, D.C., on October 25. Some of the other speakers at this two-day series included Gen. Stanley McChrystal, Congressman Jim McGovern, Park Service Director Jon Jarvis and Honest Tea founder Seth Goldman.
