Ren receives grant to continue work on polycomb group protein

Assistant Professor in Chemistry, Xiaojun Ren, has been awarded an American Cancer Society (ACS) Institution Research Grant to investigate implications of his recent discovery that the polycomb group protein Cbx2 controls chromosome stability by coordinating with chromosome segregation proteins.

The protein is currently thought to be required to express a gene responsible for the healthy development of glands. The glands affected by the polycomb group protein are essential for establishing heritable expression patterns of developmental control genes.

The American Cancer Society grant adds to the nealy eight-million dollars the ACS has granted  various programs throughout the University of Colorado system.
