College of Architecture and Planning involved with national convention

The College of Architecture and Planning (CAP) was involved in numerous aspects of the 2013 American Institute of Architects (AIA) National Convention and Design Exposition held in Denver June 20-22.

An enticing exhibit at the convention center highlighted CAP and CU Denver. Special events included a reception for alumni, faculty, staff, students attended by about 150 people.

CAP also had several individuals involved in convention activities. Korey White, MArch student and AIAS President 2012-13, introduced Denver Mayor Michael Hancock at the opening keynote presentation. Julee Herdt, Architect, AIA and professor of Architecture was invited to co-host SCI-Arc’s Alumni Event, and Ann Komara, associate professor and chair of Landscape Architecture, spoke at the University of Virginia alumni event.

Taisto Mäkelä, associate professor and Chair of Architecture, led a tour entitled “Coffee and Clyfford: A Walking Tour of Notable Architecture in the Golden Triangle Arts District.”

Jody Beck, assistant professor of Landscape Architecture, gave a panel presentation on affordable housing in Denver. Alumnus Bill Turner, principal at Path21 Architecture in Denver, participated in the blitz-build that the AIA’s trade organization AEC Cares did at Beacon Place.
