Denver - The end of the year is always a very busy time. Between finals and the holidays it can be hard to find a spare moment for anything. But the University of Colorado Denver’s Experiential Learning Center (ELC) has a solution for students, faculty and staff who may have only a short time to serve others.

Stop and Serve’ is a program hosted monthly in the North Classroom atrium that is designed to provide an opportunity for volunteering -- if it is only for five minutes.

This month's Stop and Serve featured organization was Project C.U.R.E., an organization that donates medical equipment and supplies to people in developing countries.

Megan Prentice, community outreach manager for Project C.U.R.E., who was on hand for today's event said, “We serve over 130 different countries that are in need.”

The main project for the CU Denver community to work on today for Project C.U.R.E. was ‘Kits for Kids’ which provides preventative health care to families. Today's volunteers packed items such as pain relievers, sunscreen and antibiotic ointment. They were put into bags to be sent abroad, and by noon all the kits had been assembled.

Other Stop and Serve projects have included making blankets, knitting hats and decorating bags for children with cancer.

“I think the idea of ‘Stop and Serve’ is great," Prentice added. "It engages students between classes which is something I wish they had while I was in school.”

The final ‘Stop and Serve’ of the fall semester is on Dec. 4, again in the North Classroom atrium. All volunteers are welcome.
