DENVER - When the new academic year kicked off, a new president was at the helm of the CU Denver Student Government Association (SGA). Gordon Hamby's term began June 1, 2012, and runs through May 31, 2013.
In the year ahead, Hamby hopes to improve the overall feel of the Student Government Association
among students and faculty/staff alike.
Hamby wants the SGA to become much more approachable and available; he also
wants to change the impressions that people on campus have toward the organization.
“I want the communication between
the students and the student government to become much more open," he said. "There is a real
lack there, especially between the different entities on campus.”
The role and responsibility of SGA is to be a liaison between
the administration and the students, with a focus on more campus-wide issues.
One of Hamby’s main goals is to increase the value of student voices.
“I want students to feel like they can bring issues to me or anyone in the SGA,
and those issues will be dealt with in a timely fashion and will be handled the

experience of student government. He also wants to provide coaching for the members to be
approachable by all kinds of students.
“Teamwork is really the key element to
everything we want to do this year. I want to make everyone feel like we are
working for the same team and working towards the same goal.”
when running was respect and accountability, and he really aims to bring both
elements to CU Denver's student government.
“I am really excited for this coming year; there are a lot of things to look
forward to,” Hamby said.
Hamby is a senior communications major who plans to
work in student advocacy or politics after he graduates.
