DENVER - The fall 2012 Internship and Job Fair was held in the Tivoli Turnhalle today. The event was co-sponsored by the Career Center and the Experiential Learning Center (ELC).

Employers were invited to participate as an opportunity to recruit and network with students. Students could meet face-to-face with people who actually do hiring at companies the students might be interested in working for.

“We really want to connect students with opportunities,” Employment Service Coordinator for the Career Center Rosanne Wagner said. “We want students to be prepared to get a great job when they graduate.”

The Internship and Job Fair is put on once a semester by the Career Center and the ELC. Wagner added, “This is also a great opportunity for students to learn about the services that are available to them through these two great offices.” Those services include resume building and career planning.

One aspect of this semester’s fair compared to previous years is that there was a relatively even split between companies wanting interns and hiring for professional positions. In previous years, the employers present at the fair have been more concentrated on internships. But having more professional positions available is a good sign not only for students but alumni as well.

Ellen Hinckley, internship advisor/coordinator for the Experiential Learning Center, said, “We have had more students coming in that are professionally dressed with well-written resumes than any previous year. I heard that one student actually set up an interview for a professional position at this fair, which is great!”

All day there was a steady and heavy flow of students coming through the doors.

Altogether, more than 60 employers were on hand to give information to students as well as take their resumes. Hinckley said, “There are more employers here which means there are more opportunities, too.”
