Wirth Chair Sustainability Awards announced

Wind, water, vets, environmental education and collaboration win awards

3/5/2012

DENVER - The Wirth Chair Awards celebrating the "Creators of a Sustainable Future" will be given at the 13th annual Wirth Chair Sustainability Awards Luncheon April 25.

The Wirth Chair in Sustainable Development at the School of Public Affairs at the University of Colorado Denver is named for former U.S. Senator and Undersecretary of State Timothy E. Wirth, and honors environmental and sustainable development achievements across Colorado.

This year's recipients are: The Colorado Foundation for Water Education, Veterans Green Jobs, the Denver Sustainability Park, the Colorado Alliance of Environmental Education, Wind for Schools and the late David Getches, former dean of the University of Colorado School of Law.

The posthumous award for Getches celebrates his lifetime commitment to educating future environmental stewards. His wife, Ann, will accept the award.

"This year, we are very pleased to honor those who have dedicated themselves to educating others to ensure a sustainable future," Wirth Chair Alice Madden said. "Of course, no one exemplifies that more than David Getches, who we lost far too soon to pancreatic cancer. Each of the recipients has shown stellar dedication to educating important sectors of society in their own unique and profound way."
