Women’s programs collaborating to get the word out about health issues

Seminar opens the conversations

2/8/2012

AURORA, Colo. - A collaboration by Women’s Integrated Services in Health (WISH), the Center for Women’s Health Research and the University of Colorado Hospital offered an educational seminar on Monday at the CU Anschutz Medical Campus. It was the second such “Conversations about Women’s Health” seminar with a packed house of more than 100 attendees in the Trivisible conference room in Research 2.

Lucy Esberg, MD, second-year cardiology fellow at the CU School of Medicine, started the program with comments profiling women’s heart disease.

School of Medicine Professor Margaret Wierman, MD, Physiology and Biophysics, discussed bone health and included points on preventing and treating osteoporosis in women.

The final presentation from Judith Regensteiner, PhD, director of the Center for Women’s Health Research, addressed “cardiovascular health and exercise for women and girls: the heart of the matter.” Her focus was on the importance of exercise and diet, as well as why pediatric obesity is so common among youth in the United States.

This seminar is a feature of the center's overall mission of educating women, healthcare providers, policymakers, and the public about research findings for the benefit of women everywhere.

The next seminar is being planned for May focused on mothers and daughters interacting with each other.
