New preliminary enrollment numbers for Fall 2009 indicate that the University of Colorado Denver is an increasingly stronger choice for students seeking higher education degrees. Preliminary fall enrollment numbers for the downtown campus show an enrollment increase of more than 7 percent. Enrollment at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora is up nearly 5 percent according to preliminary numbers. Combined enrollment for both campuses is up 7 percent with approximately 17,150 students enrolled at UC Denver, the highest combined enrollment ever.

Significant growth is being seen among new graduate and professional students. That number is up 17 percent with approximately 1,650 students seeking graduate or professional degrees. UC Denver also is attracting more international students with about 750 enrolled this semester, an increase of 7 percent.

"Overall, our numbers are strong and the graduate and transfer student numbers are very strong," said Barbara Edwards, assistant vice chancellor of Enrollment Management at UC Denver. "The numbers indicate more people are going back to school to get advanced degrees in this economy, especially those who may not be working. For professionals who are having a harder time finding work, it is a good time to take the opportunity to go back to school and get a more advanced degree and training. UC Denver is a solid choice when looking at local public universities that offer a wide variety of undergraduate and grad-level degrees in the downtown Denver area."

Enrollment numbers are preliminary in that official enrollment reports will not be complete until the middle of September. Enrollment is counted on official census days which was Sept. 2 for the Downtown Denver Campus, but is Sept. 14 for the Anschutz Medical Campus.

The University of Colorado Denver is located in Denver on the Downtown Campus and on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colo. UC Denver offers 120 degrees and programs in 13 schools and colleges. For more information, visit the UC Denver Newsroom.
