The Top Doctors issue is a perennial top-seller on local newsstands and was the first ever cover story in July 1993. Daniel Brogan, editor and publisher of 5280, said: “5280’s Top Docs is a list that readers refer to again and again because it is credible. We don’t pick the docs—Denver’s physicians do. Our theory is that medical professionals are best qualified to judge other medical professionals.”
In order to select the top doctors and facilities, 5280 opened its survey to every metro-area doctor with a valid Colorado medical license practicing in the state. The survey listed a variety of specialties and asked the doctors who they would trust to treat them or a member of their family in each of the 80 categories. The ballot was posted online at 5280.com.
