Confluence highlights what makes Denver great

New online magazine focuses on city's culture, entrepreneurship and higher education

Higher education is a focus area for Confluence electronic magazine

DENVER - Back in the mid-1980s then-Denver Mayor Frederico Pena invited residents to "Imagine a Great City."

It's hard to argue with anyone now that the Mile High City has, in fact, joined the ranks of the world's great cities. The many elements that make Denver a vibrant and progressive city, including its top-notch higher-education offerings, are featured in a new electronic magazine, or e-zine, called Confluence.

Confluence, which launched Nov. 14, each week features articles that tell Denver's story of economic and cultural vitality. The movers and shakers -- the "creative class" as they're known -- are featured throughout Confluence's content.

The Downtown Denver Partnership is joining with the University of Colorado Denver and other community partners to launch the new online media platform. Issue Media Group (IMG) is the publisher of Confluence; IMG produces similar e-zines in 18 other cities across the United States.

"Our intent is to highlight the people, ideas and developments that are helping move Denver forward by creating a great sense of place and thriving economic foundation," said Confluence Editor Ivy Hughes. "Higher education fits into this model by attracting the talent and brain power we need to boost Denver's identity as an international power. Universities and institutions are a critical element in creating a city attractive to the nation's creative economy."

Higher education is one of 12 focus areas of content in Confluence. Other content areas are arts and culture; city building; entrepreneurship and innovation, environment, health and wellness, housing, move to Denver, music, parks and public spaces; talent; and transit.

"CU Denver is a vital, spirited part of the Denver community," said Leanna Clark, vice chancellor of University Communications. "This partnership provides a great opportunity to spotlight the many ways the university contributes to the vibrancy and growth of the city."

The e-zine's other partners are The Denver Theatre District, Bonfils-Stanton Foundation, Anadarko Petroleum, Community College of Denver and Metropolitan State University of Denver.
