AURORA, Colo. - Incoming Chancellor Don Elliman introduced himself to a small crowd gathered in the Shore Family Forum at the Anschutz Medical Campus Wednesday.

Current Chancellor Jerry Wartgow described his successor as a man who has a strong record of successfully running complex organizations. As he handed Elliman the micropohone, he said, “This is a complex organization.”

During brief remarks, Elliman said he recognizes the challenge and it is one that he embraces. He said he is “enormously proud” to get the chance to be part of the University of Colorado Denver and that it’s an honor to work with the leadership at the Anschutz Medical Campus. “If I can add value, then it’s my pleasure to do just that.”

Elliman shared that his family members have been benefactors of the superior care at the Anschutz Medical Campus, and that he has been “lucky enough” to witness the powerful research.

He said the priorities of the institution are well defined but when considering priorities, two that are top-of-mind are ongoing issues with consolidation and awareness of the value the Anschutz Medical Campus brings to the state.

“The fact of the matter is consolidation is our reality and it’s our job to make it work,” he said. “I think the Anschutz Medical Campus is the single biggest asset in Colorado, but very few in Colorado have an understanding of that.”

Faculty and staff can visit with Elliman at noon Monday, Feb. 20, in the Terrace Room, second floor, Lawrence Street Center, 1380 Lawrence St.

Chancellor Wartgow will be here until March 31. Elliman begins chancellor duties as of April 2.
