The film: "A Legacy of Innovation: A History of the College of Nursing," details the college’s history within the context of the social history and development of the profession of nursing and nursing education in Colorado and across the United States. The film was created by two CON faculty, Susan Hagedorn, PhD, RN, FAANP, associate professor emerita, and Victoria Erickson, PhD, RN, FAANP, associate professor and director of the college’s MS and DNP degree programs. It originally premiered during last year’s National Nurses Week
For this week's special showing of the film, Therese (Tess) Jones, PhD, director of the Arts and Humanities Program for the Center for Bioethics and Humanities and associate professor in the Department of Medicine, introduced College of Nursing Dean Sarah Thompson, PhD, RN, FAAN.
“The film is an excellent history of the College of Nursing from its beginnings in Boulder to its current and complex clinical, educational and research endeavors,” said Jones. “For anyone unfamiliar with the amazing educational innovations of the college, the film is a real eye-opener, and it is a treasure in helping to tell the story of the university at large. Finally, Sue and Vicki have created a model for all of our professional schools to tell their own stories.”
Film director and co-producer Hagedorn, associate professor emerita, also is a certified pediatric and Women's Health Care nurse practitioner, and she is a fellow of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. After retirement from the CON some years ago, Hagedorn earned a masters’ degree in Media Studies and a graduate certificate in Documentary Studies at The New School. She has made numerous films about nurses and nursing and a full-length documentary about the murder of an Ecuadorean immigrant by a group of teenage boys.
Film co-producer Erickson is an associate professor
at the College and director of the college's Master of Science and Doctor of Nursing Practice degree programs. She also is a pediatric nurse practitioner and director of the Sheridan School-Based Pediatric Health Care Clinic within the Sheridan public school system in SW Denver. Erickson also is a fellow of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
