AURORA, Colo. - The CU Denver l Anschutz Medical Campus Facilities Management Department partnered with Paris Elementary School in Aurora last month to deliver almost 2,000 pounds of food and toys for the holidays to families in the school's community.

"We were able to help 187 children and 94 families," said Layna Breyare, executive assistant to the associate vice chancellor in Facilities Management. "Our entire department from both campuses participated, which is almost 250 people. We had roughly 20 volunteers who collectd the items, wrapped boxes, moved boxes and separated canned food and other food items."

Lisa Jones, Paris Elementary principal, was thankful the Facilities team adopted her school again this year for the holidays.

"This was a wonderful community outreach project," Jones said. "Paris families were very grateful and appreciative of the generous donations during the holiday season. I heard many expressions of gratitude from students and families."

Through CU in the Community all faculty and staff are allowed one half-day of work time (four hours) to go into the community and participate in a volunteer activity of their choice. During this year's campaign, which wraps up Feb. 28, other university departments fanned out across the Denver metropolitan area to perform community service.
