UC Denver Receives Colorado Energy Efficiency Award

Anschutz Medical Campus - Research Buildings

DENVER (Feb. 10, 2009) – The University of Colorado Denver Anschutz Medical Campus is contributing to a more energy efficient Colorado. UC Denver Anschutz Medical Campus today received a Colorado Energy Efficiency Award in the Most Energy Savings at One Premise category, presented by Xcel Energy at the Energy Efficiency Expo at the Hyatt Regency Tech Center-Denver.

The UC Denver Anschutz Medical Campus (AMC) is one of 11 area organizations who qualified for the award this year by participating in many of the Xcel Energy rebate programs. UC Denver AMC efforts included installing energy efficient equipment and lighting during new building construction, multiple remodels and retrofits on existing facilities and energy efficient design of new buildings.

“I think that this award recognizes the continued efforts of members of my staff as well as the Facilities Projects staff to help reduce our energy consumption and the emission of greenhouse gases while saving money by making good business decisions,” said David Turnquist, assistant vice chancellor of Facilities Operations at UC Denver. “It was a nice surprise to receive this sort of recognition and we appreciate Xcel Energy’s efforts in making this a possibility for us.”

Throughout the year, Xcel Energy offers a variety of events ranging from conservation expos to executive forums for their business customers. Xcel started the Colorado efficiency awards program last year to honor business and government customers who have made the highest accomplishments in energy efficiency. Efficiency plays a key role in Xcel Energy’s ability to provide clean, reliable and cost effective forms of energy.

The University of Colorado Denver is one of three campuses in the University of Colorado system.
