CAP students from CU Denver attend annual APA conference in Snowmass

DENVER - College of Architecture and Planning students and faculty made a big impact at the recent annual conference of the Colorado chapter of the American Planning Association.

Attending the state APA conference has been an annual highlight for Master of Urban and Regional Planning students for several decades. The conference provides students the opportunity to not only learn about a variety of planning topic at the numerous conference sessions, but it also gives them a chance to forge stronger relationships with each other and with many of the 400 planning professionals from throughout Colorado.

Twenty-three students in the College of Architecture and Planning attended this year’s conference held Oct. 3-6 in Snowmass Village.

MURP students are invited each year by Colorado APA to attend the conference at little or no cost in exchange for the students’ volunteering in many capacities to help the conference run smoothly. Additionally, the College’s Department of Planning and Design also provides some financial assistance to help defray the students’ meals and lodging costs.

Joining the students was Department of Planning and Design faculty member Ken Schroeppel. At the conference, Schroeppel presented the new Strategic Plan for the Master of Urban and Regional Planning program, recently adopted by department faculty.

The new MURP Program Strategic Plan outlines an exciting vision and new direction for the program, including several new program features, key program initiatives, and a revised curriculum. Schroeppel’s presentation on the MURP Program Strategic Plan at the Colorado APA conference gave the department the chance to share their new plan with planners from throughout the state and to seek their ideas, participation, and support in helping the MURP program and its students succeed.
