Bomb Threat

Issued For:
Anschutz Medical Campus

Bomb threat believed to be a hoax

This afternoon (Monday, September 22, 2014), a project manager for the VA Hospital construction site notified the Aurora Police Department of a bomb threat.  There is no reason to believe the Anschutz Medical Campus community is affected by this event at this time.

The University of Colorado Denver Police Department assisted the Aurora Police Department in evaluating the threat.

The construction company believes the threat is a hoax, however, as a precaution, they have evacuated the construction site for the day.

Should conditions change, you will be promptly notified.  Traffic in and around the area is not effected.

Remember to be observant at all times and report suspicious activity by calling 911 from any  campus phone or 303-724-4444 from your cell phone.

REPORTED OFFENSE: On Tuesday, July 1, 2014, an indecent exposure crime occurred off the campus at the Aurora Court and E. Colfax Avenue (Westbound) bus stop.  As reported by an employee, the suspect exposed himself and began masturbating.  The suspect was then seen in the University of Colorado Hospital visitor parking garage (Lot #3) at East 16th Avenue and Aurora Court by two other witnesses.   University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus Police responded immediately and began searching for the suspect.  Although this was the first occurrence reported to the police, the reporting employee stated she had witnessed the suspect previously exposing himself and masturbating on June 27, 2014 and on June 30, 2014 at the same location (Aurora Court and Colfax-Westbound bus stop) at approximately the same time.

SUSPECT: The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, or possibly a light-skinned black male, 5’10”, approximately 35 years of age, with a muscular build, bald or shaved head, wearing a yellow shirt, and grey pants.  He was carrying a black duffle bag.  The reporting employee described the suspect’s dress as similar to a construction worker or waste management employee. As a result of the CU Police Department continuing investigation, the suspect was arrested at a nearby construction site and is in custody.

REPORT SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY: The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus Police Department urges everyone to use caution when encountering individuals who are not personally known to them and to remain aware of their surroundings at all times. Please report any suspicious activity or suspicious persons to the University Police Department.

If anything suspicious occurs or you are the victim of a crime, immediately contact the University Police Department from any campus phone by dialing 9-1-1 or at 303-724-4444 from your cell phone. Be aware of the Blue Light emergency telephones in the parking lots and throughout the campus. Report all suspicious persons or incidents directly to the University Police Department.
