Dan and a team of media specialists handle media and communications for the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colo. The campus is home to the University of Colorado schools of Medicine, Dental Medicine, Pharmacy and Nursing, graduate programs, various centers and the Colorado School of Public Health. The team also works cooperatively with University of Colorado Hospital and Children’s Hospital Colorado, also based on the campus. He reports to the vice chancellor of university communications, Leanna Clark.
Dan came to CU in 2009 as communications director for the School of Medicine. In that role he supervised internal and external communications for the school, edited the school magazine and oversaw the school’s web site.
Prior to his university role, Dan was a producer and host at Colorado Public Radio, and before that held various editing or reporting positions at The Denver Post, Philadelphia Inquirer, San Jose Mercury News and the Knight-Ridder Newspapers Washington Bureau. Stories he wrote or edited have won various local and national awards and he shared in the 2000 Pulitzer Prize given to the Post for its coverage of the Columbine High School shootings.
Dan received a Master’s in journalism from Northwestern University and a BA in political science and American studies from Brandeis University. As an adjunct professor, he taught journalism at Temple University and crisis management and communication at the University of Denver. He is most proud of his son, with whom he lives in Denver.
