Brand Identity Standards



The official university typeface and font

Typography is an essential part of our personality. It helps unify our materials and promotes familiarity with our messaging.

Our typeface is Helvetica Neue (pronounced "Noya"), a classic sans-serif face: simple, modern, and elegant. The openness and geometry of its form make it highly legible at all sizes. It works eq​ually well for display type and body copy.

Helvetica Neue is recommended for use as the featured typeface in all University of Colorado communications.

Although the University of Colorado system has purchased a limited number of Helvetica Neue licenses, it isn’t enough to supply to every university member, and is reserved for use by those in primarily communications or marketing roles. If you feel you fit into this category, please contact the communications manager or point of contact at your school, college or administrative group to get on their list.

In cases where Helvetica Neue is not available, any installed version of Helvetica Roman is an acceptable substitute.

In cases where no versions of Helvetica Roman are available, Arial Regular can be used.

Should individual departments or users choose to purchase their own copies of Helvetica Neue, Monotype Imaging offers individual type-weights starting for around $30 per 5-workstation license, and Helvetica Neue font packages starting around $70 per 5-workstation license. An additional discount for use in education is available.
