Guidelines for effective use of university naming conventions


Maintaining proper naming conventions in all internal and external communications creates a foundation for effective identity management and consistency.

Though we are a single, consolidated institution, our university operates on two distinct campuses. Our naming conventions reflect this internal diversity.​​​

The following should be used for all written and spoken expressions, both internally and externally (click on an element below to expand):

Denver Campus

For news, eve​​nts or communications by or about academic or administrative units serving the Denver Campus only:

Full name/first use:

University of Colorado Denver

Short name/subsequent use:
  1. CU Denver
  2. Denver Campus
    (used only when comparing or contrasting the Denver and Anschutz Medical Campuses)​
School/College/Unit first use:

University of Colorado Denver School of ____________.

School/College/Unit subsequent use:

CU Denver School of ____________.

Anschutz Medical Campus
Consolidated University / Dual Campus
