Unintended white space in layouts has been causing several display issues, particularly when page fields such as the header and page image are not filled out.

Detailed Description

Test with some lower level permissions. QA permission levels.

09/01/11: GN: All layouts updated. Test pages created.

2 versions of each page are available at the following subsite.
Default version has Headline, Subheadline, Image, Image caption (where appropriate).
"Empty" versions have all of the above left blank.
QA should include:

Anonymous:

visual confirmation of eliminated whitespace
use of code inspector to confirm absence of elements

Authenticated:

ability to add/edit content in all pages

0829/11: POC test pages.
Fix has been applied to 2 layouts for POT/POC testing.

verify the following in IE7, IE8, IE9, Chrome, FF:
1: anonymous user does not have empty space below page header (H2)
2: authenticated user is presented with a working subheadline (H3) field when editing page.

Instructions for implementing white space solution

1. make a copy of a 3 column layout
2. Apply solution to <h2>, <h3>, page image, and page image caption
3. test in all browsers
-- Anonymously, White space is trimmed when not filled out
-- Anonymously/logged in, all elements show up when they are filled out
4. Make a list of all relevant production layouts to receive the fix
5. Apply to all layouts
6. Create test plan for testing all fixes

Repro Steps If subhead is empty (<h3>) a   is added creating a space between content and header

(11/10/2011 4:03 PM): Problem w/ whitespace in welcome 4. Introduced whitespace above engagement area (welcome pages for dental, pharmacy, sehd. Oddly medicine was fine despite also using welcome 4). Rolled back W$, since ws was never an issue here to begin with.

(8/30/2011 4:21 PM): Currently being tested in h3, needs to be applied to all image in text controls in all major layouts.

(8/29/2011 1:15 PM): Example provided was in a sectionhome layout, so I used that and a content2 for POT/POC.

If proven successful, the solution will need to be applied to other page elements such as images, image captions etc.

Kulkarni, Shilpa (8/11/2011 10:15 AM): Tested the markups on SP2010 SP1 version and the markups solve the "non breaking space" issue.
Kulkarni, Shilpa (8/10/2011 11:01 AM): I have attached the code snippet with the ticket. It contains markups that should be inserted in Layout pages using SharePoint Designer.
Please note that the markups used are tested in current version of SP2010 and need to be tested on SP1 of SP2010.
