The University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus are two separate campuses. The Denver Campus in located in downtown Denver and the Anschutz Medical Campus located in Aurora. The Office of Institutional Planning works on behalf of both campuses providing capital and facility planning, planning and design project management, and space management.
University of Colorado Denver
CU Denver educates more than 14,000 students each year in over 800,000sf of building space.
330,000sf of this building space belongs to the university, while 550,000sf is part of AHEC (Auraria Higher Education Campus), which is shared with two other institutions.
In 2014, the Office of Institutional Planning and Facilities teams added a new academic and student support building. Student Commons includes over 146,000sf and provides a much-needed connection between CU Denver’s presence on the Auraria Campus and downtown. This building includes a Qdoba, high-tech teaching and learning tools, and a “front door” to CU Denver leading into the downtown corridor.

Anschutz Medical Campus
CU Anschutz educates nearly 4,000 students each year, provides over 15,000 jobs, and includes over 1.5 million patient visits to the on-campus University of Colorado Hospital and Children’s Hospital Colorado.
The Anschutz Medical Campus also includes over 1,067,000sf of research space. This is more than half of the campus’ 2,045,000sf of building space.
The Anschutz Medical Campus is growing quickly, with over 18 new buildings in the last 10 years. The campus recently completed both campus-wide and site-wide master plans that detailed future growth strategies. Please see the Anschutz Medical Campus page to download final documents.
