Denver Campus Student Email Accounts

Windows Live

This message is for Current University of Colorado Denver Students only! The Anschutz Medical Campus Students may disregard!

The University of Colorado Denver and Microsoft are now providing Windows Live Email Accounts to the University with upgrades including:

Outlook Live - Email and calendaring with 10 GB of storage and continued use of your @ucdenver.edu. email addresses after graduation and for life
Messenger - Live chat, voice and video communication
SkyDrive - 25 GB of online storage
Photo Gallery - Share photos and make slideshows

All Current Denver Campus Students will use the University of Colorado Denver Windows Live email system for University communications. Graduates (Alumni) of the Denver Campus will eventually be able to claim their Windows Live accounts as well.

How to Claim and Register Your New Windows Live Account

Both new and current students at the Denver Campus need to claim and register their new University accounts by going to http://myaccount.ucdenver.edu

If you have already claimed & registered your University Account, go to http://myemail.ucdenver.edu to log in to your New Windows Live Email Account.

New & Current University Students

All University Students should claim and register their new accounts by following the instructions below on the Claim My Account tab. You will then be able to login toyour University email account, campus computers, and the University student portal (UCD Access). These new accounts will be used by instructors and the University to communicate officially with students.

These new accounts will replace all current students' accounts (@email.ucdenver.edu) and emails from the old system will be forwarded to the new system. Please note your username most likely changed if you used the old Maroon Account System. Your username should start with part of your last name (for example, John Smith may have a username "SmithJo" in the new Account System, with an old username of JoSmith in the old system).

University Alumni

University Alumni can continue to use the old student email system (@email.ucdenver.edu) until July-August, 2012. Alumni will then be notified and be able to claim their Windows Live accounts using the instructions below on the "Claim My Account" tab. Please note: alumni must have graduated from the University to be eligible for a Windows Live account.

University Employees/Students & Students Workers

If you are both a University Employee and Denver Campus Student your email account(s) will function diffrently then those who are just employees or those that are just students. To learn how your email account will work, go to: http://www.ucdenver.edu/about/departments/ITS/Pages/Dual-Roles.aspx

Follow the steps below to claim your University of Colorado Denver Account:

1. Visit https://myaccount.ucdenver.edu

2. You must enter the following information into the online form:

Student ID # or Employee ID #
Last Name
Day and Month of Birth

3. Click "Find Account". If successful, your First and Last Name will appear on the right.

4. You will need to complete your five security questions.

5. After completing your security questions, create a password with the following parameters:

Must be at least 8 characters long (letters, numbers or symbols)

It cannot contain more than 2 characters from your: Name, Username or Student ID #

It cannot contain dictionary words longer than 4 letters or the following symbols: (* - ; , / < or >)

It cannot be one of your previous 12 University account passwords

Must contain a combination of three out of the four of the following:

1. Upper-case letters (A-Z)

2. Lower-case letters (a-z)

3. Numbers (0-9)

4. Symbols (! $ # or %)

6. Once you have created your password, click "Submit" to claim your account.

Please take note of your username and email address for future use.

7. You can now use your Windows Live ID (new email address) and password to login into the University of Colorado Denver Windows Live email system at: http://myemail.ucdenver.edu

You will use your username and password to log in to University/Campus computers and UCD Access.

How do I claim my Windows Live and University Account? How do I login to and access my Windows Live Email Account?	To access your Windows Live Email, visit the website: http://myemail.ucdenver.edu You will use your University email address, and the password you set when you claimed your account, to access Windows Live. Your email address will be in the form of: "Firstname.Lastname@ucdenver.edu"
How do I reset my account password and get my username?	Go to: http://myaccount.ucdenver.edu to reset your University Account and Windows Live Email Password at any time. The University of Colorado Denver IT Services Help Desk is also available to assist you Monday-Friday, 7:30am-5pm at: 303-724-HELP (4357) and via email at: ucd-its-helpdesk@ucdenver.edu
What about accessing UCD Access & Campus Computers?	To access the UCD Access Portal, Campus Computers and other University resources besides Windows Live Email, you will user your username. Your username will be displayed after you claim your account, and can be accessed anytime, at: http://myaccount.ucdenver.edu
How do I setup Windows Live Email on a Smartphones or Computer? How do I get my Windows Live email username and password?	You must first register and claim your University account at: https://myaccount.ucdenver.edu. You will need to enter your Student ID or Employee ID, Last Name and Birthdate (Month/Day). After you register and claim your account, you will receive your username and set your password. You will use these credentials to access your Windows Live Email account and campus computers. When you register, you will also choose and answer 5 security questions. If you need to reset your account password later, go back to: https://myaccount.ucdenver.edu and you will be asked to answer 3 of these security questions.
What is my email address for Windows Live?	Your email address will follow the format: FirstName.LastName@ucdenver.edu. If there is more than one student with the same name, each student will have a number added to their email address. For example: John.Smith1@ucdenver.edu, John.Smith2@ucdenver.edu, etc.
How do I login to the new Windows Live email system?	After you register and claim your account at https://myaccount.ucdenver.edu, you will receive your username and password. Then go to http://myemail.ucdenver.edu to login to the Windows Live email system using the credentials you received.
How do I change my password for my Windows Live account?	After you have registered and claimed your University Account at https://myaccount.ucdenver.edu, you will be required to set 5 security questions. Go to https://myaccount.ucdenver.edu and reset your password by answering 3 of those security questions. You will be prompted to reset your password/provide a new University account password after you answer your security questions.
What if I forget my security questions/answers to reset my University and Windows Live email account password?	If you do not remember the answers to your security questions, please call the IT Services Help Desk at (303) 724-4357 for University account/password assistance. We will need to verify your information on the phone before providing you with password/account assistance. We are available Monday - Friday from 7:30AM to 5:00PM.

For New Users: All University Accounts must be registered and claimed at https://myaccount.ucdenver.edu, you will receive your University Account username and password after you complete this process. I am a Student & University Employee. How do I login to my email account?	Individuals that are Faculty/Staff/Employees at the University and Students will use the Faculty/Staff Webmail system. You will have one University account and your role as an employee will take precedence over your Student account. After registering your University account, you will log in to Webmail to access email. Please call the IT Services Help Desk for account assistance. I had an email address (John.Smith@email.ucdenver.edu) before and now it has changed. Why?	The Windows Live email system follows the format of: "john.smith@ucdenver.edu". All email accounts from the old email system with the format: "john.smith@email.ucdenver.edu" will be migrated to the new Microsoft Windows Live email system. Students of the University of Colorado Denver can now have all the advantages of Windows Live email accounts. Some of the new features of the Windows Live email system include 10GB of email storage, a 25GB SkyDrive and email access for life, just to name a few.
Can I still use my old (@email.ucdenver.edu) email address?	The "@email.ucdenver.edu" email accounts will stay active until October 1, 2011. It is recommended that all students begin using the new standard Windows Live email system as quickly as possible. The old email system will be taken offline on October 1, 2011.
How do I import emails from my old email account to my Windows Live account?	If you have emails that you would like to move from the old email system to the new Windows Live email system, please review the instructions located in our Setup & Guides tab.
How do I forward or move (migrate) emails from my old email address to my new Windows Live email address?	To move (migrate) existing emails from your @email.ucdenver.edu account, please see the Setup & Guides tab/section for instructions. Emails to your old (@email.ucdenver.edu) account will be automatically forwarded to your new Windows Live account beginning on August 1st, until October 1, 2011.
What if someone emails my old (@email.ucdenver.edu) address after I setup my new Windows Live email (@ucdenver.edu) account?	If someone emails your old (@email.ucdenver.edu) account, it will be forwarded to your new (@ucdenver.edu) account. Email forwarding to the new Windows Live email system begins on August 1st and continues until October 1st 2011.
Can I continue to use my email account after I graduate?	Yes. Students will continue to be able to use their University of Colorado Denver email account after they graduate. Your Windows Live account will be available to you for life and will never expire.
What if I forget my login information/password after I graduate?	After you have registered and claimed your University Account at https://myaccount.ucdenver.edu and have set your 5 security questions, go to https://myaccount.ucdenver.edu and reset your password by answering 3 of those security questions. You will be prompted to create a new University password. If you have not registered or do not remember the answers to your security questions, please call the IT Services Help Desk at (303) 724-4357 for assistance. We will need to verify your information on the phone before providing you with account assistance. We are available Monday-Friday, 7:30am-5:00pm. It is strongly recommended before you graduate or immediately after you graduate, that you verify your security questions/answers. I have recently graduated from the University of Colorado Denver, can I use the new Windows Live student email?	Recently graduated students may be migrated to the new Windows Live email system.
