End of Support for Microsoft XP and Office 2003

University Community,
On April 8, 2014,  Microsoft will officially end support and security patch distribution for all versions of Windows XP and any older operating systems, as well as all Office 2003 or older Office products.  After April 8, 2014, there will no longer be any new security updates, non-security hotfixes or support for any of these products.


Due to this, all systems running Windows XP or older must upgrade to Windows 7 Professional and all users running Office 2003 must upgrade to a minimum of Office 2007 before April 2014.  This leaves only one budget cycle to accomplish this.

To Upgrade to Windows 7

 
Option#1: You can schedule an IT Services Workstation Support technician to perform the upgrade for you on-site. To schedule a technician to assist you, please contact the UC Denver IT Services Help Desk at 303-724-4357 (HELP). The IT Services Help Desk will schedule a technician to remediate this issue and we will schedule a time that is convenient for you.  There may be costs for this service. 


Option#2: Some departments have LAN Administrators or Technology Coordinators available to perform these types of remediation.  Please feel free to contact your Department Administrator or LAN Administrator for more details.

 

Option #3:  Thin Client technology may be a suitable solution to eliminate these issues in the future, with a centralized system that will manage all future OS versions and reduce total cost of ownership.  If you would like more information regarding this service, please contact the IT Services Help Desk and we will be able to provide further details.

 

To Upgrade to Office 2007 (or newer)

If you choose to perform the upgrade yourself, please keep in mind that you will be responsible for any issues that may occur if the installation is not completed properly, or for any software compatibility issues that may result.
