Apple Inc. released their newest Operating System (OS)
called Mac OS X 10.7 Lion on July 20, 2011. This new operating system has
not been tested for enterprise level computing and the IT Services department
will begin testing this OS in earnest prior to support for the University of
Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus network environment.
We have already discovered a great deal of compatibility
issues related to this new release of Mac OS Lion that includes not being able
to run McAfee Enterprise Anti-virus software as well as several Microsoft
Office Software and Adobe Software compatibility and stability issues. We
have begun listing these issues on our web page at: http://www.ucdenver.edu/about/departments/ITS/CustomerCare/Pages/Apple-OS.aspx
If you have purchased a new system with Mac OS Lion
already on it and would like to participate in our test group, please contact
the IT Services department Help Desk at (303) 724-HELP (x44357) and we will add
you to the University test group. We will be able to set your system up
for use on the campus network and also provide you with updates for McAfee anti-virus
and Microsoft Office as they become available. This will be required for
access to the University network at this time. Please note: if you
have an encrypted Mac Laptop do not upgrade to the new Mac OS Lion at this
time, as the PGP software is not fully compatible with the Lion OS.
Your participation in the Testing Program will ensure all
compatibility and stability issues with the New Mac OS Lion are resolved and
Mac OS Lion users can utilize their computers for university applications and
enterprise computing on the University network while engaged I this testing
phase. Your participation is appreciated as it will assist the University with
the transition to full support for this new Mac OS.
Thanks in advance for your attention to this matter.
