You may have noticed a recent change in the "To" and "From" fields in your Exchange email messages. Your email address, as well as the other users of the University email system, displayed the role of each user, such as “Employee” and “Department” or “Student” and “School”. The requested change to the Global Address List (GAL) for the University email system was to address the importation of 20,000+ student email account names resulting in this unintended consequence. This effort is in support of the new downtown student email initiative in which downtown students will be provided a new email system very similar to the email system used by faculty and staff today.
At this time IT Services will roll this change back to the original display names and review other alternatives for display name conflicts.
