If you are or will become staff or faculty, your account is automatically created once you are officially entered into the University of Colorado Human Resources Employee database.

If you are not and will not be an employee and still need a UC Denver account, you will have to have a department sponsor you by submitting a Sponsored User Request. Once you are sponsored, your account will be automatically created for you. The sponsoring department will be notified when the account is created. Please contact your sponsoring department with this request.

If you want a resource mailbox or calendar often referred to as a generic account\mailbox, you will need to submit a Mailbox Request form. This could be a mailbox or calendar you need for scheduling a conference room or piece of equipment, a department vacation calendar, an Inbox to send or receive email relating to a project, research study, or services you provide. To obtain a Generic mailbox\calendar, please have your department representative submit a Mailbox Request Form.

Due to the need to manage our data center storage capacity, we have limits to the size of our mailboxes. Exceeding these limits will affect your ability to send and receive email messages. On rare occasions IT Services may allow a user to exceed these limits but it will be on a case-by-case basis and out of a campus business necessity.

• 550MB - The Exchange server will send you daily notifications informing you “Your mailbox is almost full”.
• 600MB - The Exchange server will prohibit your account from sending email messages.
• 700MB - The Exchange server will prohibit your account from sending messages and incoming messages will be rejected.

64MB is our send and receive size limit. Due to the nature of our business, we have much larger send and receive size limits then most organizations. Keep this in mind when sending or receiving large attachments because the sending or receiving email system may have a much smaller limit preventing you from sending an email from or to their email system. If this is the case, you the sender will receive a bounced message indicating this. See FAQ “What do I do if I receive a bounced message or NDR (Non Deliverable Response)?”.

If you have or suspect that you have received a SPAM email, please send the email, as an attachment, to spam.admin@ucdenver.edu. See FAQ “How do I send email message as an attachment?”.

A Phishing email is one that is soliciting personal information (i.e., user name and password, credit card information, Social security number, etc.). It is a form of Identity Theft. IMPORTANT! UC Denver IT Services will never ask for your Password.

If you receive a suspected Phishing email addressed to your UC Denver email account, please forward a sample of the message, as an attachment, to the UC Denver IT Services Security Team at spam.admin@ucdenver.edu with a subject line of "PHISHING". See FAQ “How do I send email message as an attachment?”.

An NDR or commonly referred to as a “Bounced Message” indicates that there is something wrong with the delivery of the message and the NDR will, most often, provide the necessary information as to why. On some occasions, it is more complex then what the bounced message indicates. If you cannot determine, from the content of the Bounced Message, why the message was not delivered, please contact the Helpdesk at 303-724-HELP (4357). Be prepared to send the NDR as an attachment to the Helpdesk or another email address as directed by the Helpdesk. See FAQ “How do I send email message as an attachment?”.

The following instructions are for Outlook PC users. Note that the first method works very well for selecting and forwarding multiple messages, while the second method works well for forwarding individual messages.

Method 1 - forwarding multiple messages: From your Outlook Inbox: Hold the control key down on your keyboard while you select (click) multiple sample messages from your Inbox (the control key allows you to select multiple items). Once you have the samples highlighted, RIGHT-click on one of the blue, highlighted messages and select or left-click "Forward Items" or “Forward” depending on your version of Outlook. The selected emails will be inserted into a new message, as attachments. Contact the Helpdesk (303-724-HELP [4357] if you need further assistance. Note: you can remove the email messages you do not want to send.

Method 2 - an alternate method that works particularly well for forwarding single messages. From your Outlook Inbox: open a new email in Outlook, go to the Insert menu, and select "Attach Item" or “Outlook Item” depending on your version of Outlook and then select the message or messages of concern and click OK. Contact the Helpdesk (303-724-HELP [4357] if you need further assistance.

Select the email you want to forward as an attachment. At the toolbar on the top of the screen, click the “Message” menu, then select “Forward as Attachment” . Contact the Helpdesk (303-724-HELP [4357] if you need further assistance.

If all recipients are on campus (i.e., @ucdenver.edu email addresses) and your list of recipients is less the 200, request an Exchange Distribution list. If all or some of the recipients are off campus (i.e., do not have an @ucdenver.edu email addresses) or your list of recipients is larger than 200, request a ListServ List. Contact the Helpdesk for support at 303-724-HELP (4357). If you are having problems with Outlook or Entourage, as an alternative, you should be able to us Outlook Web Access (OWA) by entering webmail.ucdenver.edu URL into your web browser.
