Facilities Operations and the Sustainability program at University Colorado Denver and the Anschutz Medical Campus are working in concert to create a campus that is responsible for resource use and is seeking ways to lower the university’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. We are keenly aware that daily activities on our campuses require energy that currently comes for the burning of fossil fuels that are contributing to climate change. We are striving to cut our contributions through energy efficiency, energy and water conservation, alternative energy sources, and recycling. Current goals include a 2.5% annual decrease in electricity, natural gas and water used per square foot, as well as a 7.5% annual increase in recycled materials. This will include an annual reduction of carbon dioxide in our GHG inventory of 2.5%.
