Ermias Minelik is a senior at the University of Colorado Denver and majored in business and is now pursuing medical school. As a first generation student, coming from family that immigrated to the Denver, Colorado from Eritrea, East Africa he was reluctant to pursue medicine. In high school, he participated in the Daniel's Fund Program, which he contributes attending a credible university (UNC-Greeley) to. He was the only one of his friends from high school to attend college until this day. He has allowed challenges of being of out his comfort zone to make him a strong person whom appreciates diversity. Through this appreciation he knew applying to the UPP program would strengthen his value for diversity and personal identity. UPP gave support during times of discouragement. The mentorship, medial education, networks, internship, and so on all have made his experience of becoming a doctor invaluable.
