​For those not familiar with the MCAT Study Academy, it is a student driven study group designed to engage those students of personal financial hardship with an educational opportunity to promote high quality scores on the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT). Our mission is to reach out to students who are interested in pursuing a career as a physician, but who also have untold stories of personal hardship due to disparities of racial/ethnic, socioeconomic, or environmental origins. This program strives to provide students with a team-based approach to MCAT preparation utilizing the knowledge of current medical students, prospective medical students, and fellow undergraduate/graduate students aiming to achieve a common goal. The goals of this program are to increase confidence and aptitude of students preparing to take the MCAT, along with fostering the idea of teamwork in achieving a common end goal.

By participating in the program, students will have access to a unique and innovative MCAT preparation. In addition to the team-based approach preparation for the MCAT, each student will have access to material presented in a manner best suited to their learning style based on results from VARK (Visual, Auditory, Reading, Kinesthetic). The MCAT Study Academy will also provide the Myers Briggs Learning Assessment which will determine the personality characteristics of students serving as an additional platform for presenting MCAT study material. Students selected to participate in the program will also have access to AAMC MCAT exams, MCAT passages, and free standing questions for every subject. Additionally, outside of MCAT preparation students will be paired with a first year medical student mentor to help guide them through the application and interview process in the future. The end of the program will feature a dinner for students to socialize with medical students, as well as important faculty from the School of Medicine. There will not be any fee for participating in the program, meaning this MCAT Study Academy and materials are FREE!

All students participating in the program will be required to undergo learning assessment testing before the program begins on January 23rd, 2012. In addition, students will be required to attended guided study sessions during the week as well as participate in the mentored session each Saturday from 8AM-12PM. Failure to participate in each session will result in immediate dismissal from the program.

Eligibility of students will be defined by the Federal Pell Grant via Financial Aid, participation in TRiO programs, and administrative queries searching for pre-medical students at the junior and senior level. The MCAT Study Academy will be designated for students of disadvantaged socioeconomic status, first generation, and/or underrepresented populations. Selection for the first cohort of students will be from the Boulde Campus and the Denver Campus. Those capable of handling the rigors of the study academy without jeopardizing other academics will be qualified and encouraged to participate. Deadline for the application is December 15th, 2013. No late applications will be accepted!
